These days a lot of weddings seem to always have topiary trees.  You cannot blame people because they just give the distinctive beauty and elegance fit for such a formal occasion.  It appears the demand for topiary trees is increasing is year.

The things that you’ll most likely need would be succulents or ivy, hose or water can, sphagnum moss, bushes or shrubs, and chicken wire frame.

Step 1
After purchasing a chicken wire frame that is already performed, shape it into your desired animal. For those who are just starting out, you can form something easy by just purchasing a frame. If you need a bit of challenge, you can just buy a chicken wire and do the forming by yourself based on your favored animal. Step 2

1. You start by cutting out the stem of the silk flowers using a wire cutter. You have to leave at least an inch long of the wire stem on every silk flower. Then bring out the foam ball and mentally plan the scheme of your colors before putting the flowers on the foam. By sticking the wires directly to the foam balls, you can add the flowers and make sure that you go around the entire ball without missing on some parts so as not to show the baldness of the foam ball. Only leave parts of the ball that is meant for the birch stick.

2. Next, put the birch twigs sporadically around the wedding topiary. Then prepare the birch stick. If necessary, adjust the length then wire them together. Attach it to the wedding topiary by pushing them into the foam ball approximately an inch deep which will serve as your measurement. Then take off the birch sticks and use a glue gun to completely put together the birch stick and the foam ball. After successfully attaching the birch stick, you can now fill in the entire foam ball with the silk flowers that were not used.

3. Prepare your base by either using a Plaster of Paris and then adding the stick on or using a foam block to firmly hold the topiary in place. You can also use sand or small rocks. Push the base stick into the foam block and put in some glue or Plaster of Paris and let it dry. Once the base is secured, add some floral moss to achieve that natural earthly look.

And there you have it, your very own wedding topiary centerpiece!

Tips on Making Flower Topiaries

Flower topiaries are delicate and pure that can imitate how a real plant looks like with a bit of blossoming perfusion. They stay beautiful and fresh for the entire year with few maintenance needed. Actually, once you have created a flower topiary, there is no longer a need to tend to it every now and then like what you do with flowering plants. For those who are always on the go, but would still love to have a minor decoration that can liven up the environment, a flower topiary is the answer.

So how does one make a flower topiary? This might seem a intimidating at first but the moment you get used to it, you’ll easily appreciate the delicate structure and the fine ingenuity of the flower topiary. The task is really simple. You just need to assemble a few things, usually those that you’ll see hanging around the house. It just takes a bit of time, patience and effort to make things work.

The things that you’ll need would be a dowel or twig, floral foam, plant pot that depends on your size preference, glue gun, Styrofoam ball, Spanish moss, silk leaves, Plaster of Paris, pounded dried roses, craft paints and baby’s breath. Now that you have assembled everything, there is work to be done.

First, allow the twig to dry. If possible, make sure that the twig that you have is straight and is half inch in diameter and approximately 14-inch long. If twigs are not accessible, you can use a dowel with the same diameter and length. Make sure that the dowel will have an earthly color like that of a natural wood.

While waiting for that to dry, you can now prepare a pot that’s measure approximately 4 inches which will serve as the base of your flower topiary. Paint it with whatever color works for you or if you would prefer purchasing an already done pot, that’s perfectly fine. By cutting a piece of foam in order to fit the pot’s bottom, you can finally insert the dowel or twig’s end into the floral foam and you have to make sure that it will stand perfectly straight. After following the instructions on the box on how to use the Plaster of Paris, pour it on the dowel’s base in order to fill the pot. This will certainly add weight on your flower topiary to prevent tipping or outbalancing. Allow this to dry.

Next step is to insert the dowel’s top inside the foam ball and dab glue around it to ascertain its stability. Using the Spanish moss, place it over the foam ball that will make a more natural background to the flowers. Cutting a few silk leaves and glue it in order to cover parts of the foam ball. Select your favorite individual flowers and place them amidst the leaves. Add a few baby’s breath by placing it on intervals just to create proportion. Add some ribbons if desired.

Topiary forms will require patience and creativity from you, if you want to make beautiful designs. First, let us define topiary. One way to give a good shape to these plants is with the use of wire cage that is already shaped to the design that you want the plant to follow. This is the conventional way of forming shapes.

Plants which are in different animal shapes can be as big as the real animal being copied; and these are usually placed in gardens of museums or theme parks to create more impact.
