These days a lot of weddings seem to always have topiary trees.  You cannot blame people because they just give the distinctive beauty and elegance fit for such a formal occasion.  It appears the demand for topiary trees is increasing is year.

If you like topiary trees, you do not have to grow the actual tree.  If you are fine with a fake one, that is okay.  You can make your own topiary tree.  You basically need a huge foam and form a ball with that foam.  You also need dowels or huge sticks where you will stick the foam ball.  This is the basic requirement for making topiary trees.  The rest of the materials will depend on the design of your topiary tree.  You can add ribbons, and other fancy stuff in your topiary tree if you want.

To start making topiary trees, simply insert the dowel or stick on the foam ball so it looks like a huge lollipop.  When your topiary tree is already standing, you can start adding all the things you want to add in it.  You can cover it with fake leaves, ribbons, candy or whatever suits the party.  Making topiary trees can be easy.

Of course, the real topiary trees are much better than the fake ones.  You can go to your local tree store to select the topiary tree that suits your taste.  Topiary trees come in different shapes and sizes.  The most common one is the round shaped topiary tree.  This is the more traditional topiary tree.  There are also others that are shaped like a triangle.  Triangle shaped topiary trees look more modern than the round ones.  If you live in a small space, get small topiary trees for your home.  If you have a huge garden, it is okay to get large full grown topiary trees.  You can place them on the pathway to your garden.  You can never go wrong with topiary trees.

Benefits of Silk Topiary

Silk topiary is considered to be one of the most famous home decorations for this generation. Creating Topiary Animals

Thinking of adding up a bit of life to your yard? Why not try topiary animals? They are interesting pieces of landscapes that add a very interesting remark to your home.

What are topiary animals?
They are those bushes, shrubs and plants that are cut, pruned and framed as animal shapes. One will usually see these elaborate works of art in expensive gardens that has mansions as a form of solitude. Animal topiaries are unique and carefully crafted wonders that specially add some life to any space inside a garden.

Topiary animals may look a bit difficult to create but if you know how to follow instructions, no matter how novice your level is, you can successfully do this by yourself and be amazed on how much you can do. By following these easy steps, you can manage to create your very own topiary animals and do something about those annoying bushes around the house.

The things that you’ll most likely need would be succulents or ivy, hose or water can, sphagnum moss, bushes or shrubs, and chicken wire frame.

Step 1
After purchasing a chicken wire frame that is already performed, shape it into your desired animal. For those who are just starting out, you can form something easy by just purchasing a frame. If you need a bit of challenge, you can just buy a chicken wire and do the forming by yourself based on your favored animal. You can check out these performed frames in garden stores or home improvement shops.

Step 2
Now that you have the frame, place it over the shrub or bush and push it through. Once you have them perfectly injected, trim the unwanted branches that stick out the wire. Prune and trim the branches regularly and as time goes, the shrub or bush will start to grow accordingly to the wire’s shape.

Step 3
Using the sphagnum moss, stuff the topiary animal in order to make a smaller type of topiary which is a bit simpler to maintain and shape. Insert the ivy or succulents into the moss between the wires. This will allow other trailing plants and the ivy to grow amidst the frame of the wire.

Step 4
Finally, you have to situate your animal topiary where underneath some shade and sun and water it accordingly.

Once the animal topiary has blossomed in full volume, you’ll certainly appreciate its presence. Don’t be afraid in experimenting with other kinds of animal shapes.

Flower topiaries are delicate and pure that can imitate how a real plant looks like with a bit of blossoming perfusion. They stay beautiful and fresh for the entire year with few maintenance needed. Actually, once you have created a flower topiary, there is no longer a need to tend to it every now and then like what you do with flowering plants. For those who are always on the go, but would still love to have a minor decoration that can liven up the environment, a flower topiary is the answer.

So how does one make a flower topiary? This might seem a intimidating at first but the moment you get used to it, you’ll easily appreciate the delicate structure and the fine ingenuity of the flower topiary. The task is really simple. You just need to assemble a few things, usually those that you’ll see hanging around the house. It just takes a bit of time, patience and effort to make things work.

The things that you’ll need would be a dowel or twig, floral foam, plant pot that depends on your size preference, glue gun, Styrofoam ball, Spanish moss, silk leaves, Plaster of Paris, pounded dried roses, craft paints and baby’s breath. Now that you have assembled everything, there is work to be done.

First, allow the twig to dry. If possible, make sure that the twig that you have is straight and is half inch in diameter and approximately 14-inch long. If twigs are not accessible, you can use a dowel with the same diameter and length. Make sure that the dowel will have an earthly color like that of a natural wood.

While waiting for that to dry, you can now prepare a pot that’s measure approximately 4 inches which will serve as the base of your flower topiary. Paint it with whatever color works for you or if you would prefer purchasing an already done pot, that’s perfectly fine. By cutting a piece of foam in order to fit the pot’s bottom, you can finally insert the dowel or twig’s end into the floral foam and you have to make sure that it will stand perfectly straight. Using the Spanish moss, place it over the foam ball that will make a more natural background to the flowers. Cutting a few silk leaves and glue it in order to cover parts of the foam ball. Topiary Plants For Your Garden

Three mostly used topiary plants are the Baby’s Tears (also known as the Helxine Soleirolii), the Rose buds that are cut dry and the Ivy. A very good characteristic of the Ivy is that it has long stems which climb up, making it capable of training around any preformed formation. And to add to this, it grows fast and its species are known to be strong and resilient.

If you are planning to have Ivy as your topiary plants, you have to consider its perfect location. An Ivy plant is better suited to be placed in an area which is not confined because it does not enjoy dry air. Watering them should be done regularly but they should also be allowed to dry out a little before the next watering.

An Ivy plant can climb up any support without the need of tying it up. It grows fast and it automatically winds itself around any formation. However, you should maintain this plant regularly since sometimes it can be too invasive. If you do not keep an eye on it, it may over develop itself.

On the other hand, Baby’s Tears as topiary plants grow out like mats and they can cover big areas of garden or grounds. It is best for this plant to be situated in a bright place. This plant is strong and hardy, and its maintenance is not difficult. All it needs is regular trimming so that it will not become untidy. If however you choose to place this plant indoors, you have to make sure that it has good ventilation and that it is regularly watered and misted.

Rose buds can also be used as topiary plants. It is essential for the rose to be dried before using them as topiaries. To better preserve their color and their scent, you can freeze them after you have blanched them. One simple way to make roses good topiaries is to place them in a small box made of wood, line them up close to each other and set moss around the said box.

Aside from these three plants, there are also several other topiary trees that can be used for topiary designs. Dried leaves which have fallen can also be used; you can simply make a leaf arrangement by mixing different colors together. If they are all of the same color, you may stain or paint some of the leaves to make a variation. You may also use tree branches or pine cones together with small rocks to complete the design.

If you want to make a look that is similar to a rain forest, you may use Dwarf False Cypress trees decorated with Leucobryum Glaucum moss. This is very lasting and it can smell really good. It is also perfect as a Christmas gift.
