Everybody knows that one of the best ways to give life to a room is to add some plants. But with more and more people moving to small apartments and condominiums it seems that the choices for good indoor plants are not that extensive. Enter the world of tropical house plants. These plants are the exact fit for most small indoor spaces. They are very popular and come in a wide array of choices to choose from. They are also perfect for city dwellers since they are usually very low-maintenance and this low supervision is just right for people who are always on the go in the city.
Tropical house plants are named as such since they originally come from the tropics which are areas that are usually dry and warm. This makes the plants be more resistant to the weather changes and can live long (if proper care is applied) indoors since the temperature is usually controlled. Tropical house plants need not be watered everyday since they are used to having to go long periods with no water at all when in the wild. Even if you forget to water them for a week, or maybe two, these plants are very resourceful since they will suck all the water from the soil in which they are planted in. Of course, it is not advisable to forget about watering your tropical house plants. Being able to withstand long periods without water is not an excuse to not water them at all for weeks.
These tropical house plants also do not need that much sunlight, in fact some could easily dry up if they are over exposed to the sun. You just have to watch your plant for the first couple of days to see it's tolerance for the sun. If you can just expose your tropical house plant with the morning sun, it should do just fine. And lastly, you do not need to add any fertilizer to most tropical house plants. Again, these plants get their nutrients from the soil so just make sure to get soil that dosed with micro-nutrients. You can ask for these at any gardening store.
So go out and take a look at your local stores. Ask about which tropical house plant is indigenous to your area and you will be on your way to having more greens to your home!
